Question: Does Domain Blocker keep me safe from computer viruses?
Answer: Yes, and no. Domain Blocker does not remove viruses like an antivirus program.
Think about it this way. Antivirus and Antispyware programs are reactive: they clean your PC after an infection. They work like penicillin works to cure an illness.
Domain Blocker is very different, because it's more proactive: it help keep your computer away from sick computers and malicious websites.
Domain Blocker helps your computer keep a healthier lifestyle! It blocks access to known web sites that contain malicious code, like spyware and Trojans. Domain Blocker redirects your computer to our simple "Domain Blocked" pages when your computer tries to connect to sites on our protected list.
By forcing your computer to stay away from bad sites, your computer should be healthier, safer, and run faster.
Question: My computer seems faster after installing Domain Blocker. Is that possible?
Answer: YES! Many computers are faster, because they’re downloading less junk. Domain Blocker can preserve bandwidth. It’s simple: Our little cat’s picture and the “Domain Blocked” pages are smaller (load faster) than most of the objectionable sites we block.
Question: We like Domain Blocker, but want to use a custom page instead of the image of your 'cat'. Can we use a page of our own design or send a custom message to our employees?
Answer: Of course! Just contact us via our website or email info@cheshiresolutions.com to receive a quote for the customization.
Question: Does Domain Blocker work on a Windows Server?
Answer: YES! We’ve tested it with no problems on Microsoft's Small Business Server 2003, and Windows Server 2000. Compatibility issues should be minimal because of the techniques we use.
Question: My Antispyware program says that I have many entries in my 'hosts' file. Have I been infected?
Answer: Usually no. We use the 'hosts' file to redirect your computer to our site at www.domainblocker.net. The hosts file should contain:
- 127.0.0.1 localhost,
- 64.226.50.76 in the protection list (over 35,000 websites), and
- any customized entries.
Any other entries may indicate a spyware attempt. If the numbers are always 64.226.50.76, don’t worry about it. If you’re still concerned, click on the following link to see what’s there….
Question: I saw a partial page instead of what’s at http://64.226.50.76. How did I get part of that page?
Answer: You saw an active server page. (file.asp). An active server page can “filter” content and may have filtered out our links or our 'cat’s' picture.
Question: My computer seems slower. What can I do?
Answer: This may be caused by the way your browser is setup. Try this.
1. Empty the Internet Cache (Control Panel, Internet, click “Delete Files”)

2. Set the size of the cache to 20MB. Right Click on Internet Explorer, Properties, General,
Question: I made those changes (reduced the size of the cache and emptied the files) but my computer still seems to run slow. What other options are there?
Answer: Some Windows 2000 machines work better with the DNS Client Service disabled. Click on Start/Settings/Control Pane/Administrative Tools/Services. Stop or disable the DNS Client

Question: I installed the software, but still can connect to bad sites. What can I do?
Answer: First, we can’t block everything. The Internet is constantly changing and we may not be listing the offensive site you visited. You may have an addition for our list of malicious web sites. If so, just e-mail us your recommendation.
But, try this first.
1. Empty the Internet Cache (Control Panel, Internet, click “Delete Files”)

2. Set the size of the cache to 20MB by opening Control Panel, Internet Options, and view the General tab. Also, verify you are checking for newer versions of stored pages: do not select “Never”.

Question: I really do think that I have found a bad site that should not be seen in most business environments. Can you add it to the list?
Answer: YES! Just email us at info@cheshiresolutions.com. We’ll evaluate your recommendation and add it to the list, if it meets our criteria for inclusion. We normally include every recommendation. Everyone will have it the next time they update!
We try to block malicious sites, pornography sites, and many ad sites. We’ll never get them all because the Internet changes too frequently. But, we can stop a lot of them!
Question: Can Domain Blocker be updated?
Answer: YES! Click on Start/All Programs/Domain Blocker/Check for Updates
Question: Can Domain Blocker be added to the Windows Scheduler to automatically look for updated lists?
Answer: YES! Click on Start/Control Panel/ Scheduled Tasks/
Follow the Event Scheduler wizard and select c:\Program Files\Domain Blocker\db.exe as the program to run. Be sure to place your username and password in the appropriate boxes.

Whenever it runs, you’ll see a box like this:

Click “OK”
Question: My computer seemed to freeze for awhile right after I installed the Domain Blocker, then started working. What's wrong? Will this happen again?
Answer: Your computer loaded IP addresses for thousands of bad sites. On slower systems, this process can take up to 20 seconds. It should not happen after the initial load and reboot.
